The aim of the project is to promote awareness of the importance of flora and nature conservation, especially among schoolchildren, by applying innovative solutions based on educational content and natural sciences. Educating the public about the negative impact on nature is the main idea behind this project.

Using modern educational methods, an interdisciplinary approach and modernizing the educational infrastructure, the Aukštaitija National Park and Labanoras Regional Park Administration (ANP) and Daugavpils University (DU) will promote a responsible attitude towards nature in the border regions of Latvia and Lithuania. The project partners will develop educational materials for the public and employees of partner organizations to improve practical skills that will promote more sustainable activities in nature and increase the attractiveness of natural sciences as a career choice.

DU’s academic knowledge resources, supplemented by ANP’s practical experience, will enable the creation of an original environmental education offering based on historical memories, contemporary knowledge, and future ambitions.

As part of the project, ANP will create innovative educational infrastructure, such as a moon laboratory, a modular dome of lunar plants, and outdoor exhibits with historical plant species, while DU will improve the educational trails and create a new educational outdoor infrastructure to showcase protected plant species and other natural treasures found in the Ilgas Castle Park. By offering unique research and educational opportunities, the Green Stories project will significantly increase knowledge about biodiversity and natural sciences, promoting nature conservation measures in the border regions of Latvia and Lithuania.

Project budget:

Project total budget is 754 735,41 EUR, 80% of which is ERDF funding.

DU total budget is 195 818,75 EUR, 80% of which is ERDF funding, and 20% – state funding.
