As is customary at the beginning of each academic year, this autumn Daugavpils University is once again pleased to welcome Erasmus+ exchange students from various European and partner countries. This semester, 32 students from 9 countries have joined the DU community, enriching our academic environment with their presence and cultural diversity.
The international students have arrived from:
Most Erasmus+ students have chosen to study English and Russian philology by joining the DU bachelor’s programme “Language and Cultural Studies”. In addition, students are also participating in the bachelor’s programmes “Information Technologies” and “Biology”, the master’s programme “Philology and Applied Linguistics”, as well as the doctoral programmes “Language and Literature Studies” and “Management Science”.
The programme coordinators sincerely thank all DU teaching staff for their dedication, support, and responsiveness, helping Erasmus+ students not only in their academic pursuits but also in adapting to the university’s academic and social environment.
On September 8, 2025, the Erasmus+ Welcome Ceremony was held in the Daugavpils University Concert Hall. During the event, the new students were warmly welcomed, introduced to the structure of DU and its study opportunities, and enjoyed a friendly and inspiring atmosphere that helped them feel like part of the university community.
The students were addressed by DU Vice-Rector for Studies Inese Kokina, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Mārīte Kravale-Pauliņa, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Natālija Degtjarjova, and the Chairperson of the DU Student Council Annija Rozentāle.
The Head of International and Public Relations, responsible for international student recruitment, Velta Trūle, introduced the students to Latvia, Daugavpils, and the history of DU.
The event’s musical atmosphere was provided by DU lecturer Gļebs Beļajevs with a musical performance, while students were introduced to traditional Latvian folk dance rhythms by Marita Irbe, choreographer of the DU student dance ensemble “LAIMA”.
To conclude the day, Erasmus+ students went on a guided tour of Daugavpils, exploring the city’s most notable sites and learning fascinating facts about its history and culture.
