The Ambassador of India to Latvia Visits Daugavpils University to Strengthen Cooperation in Education and Research

Today, on September 9, 2025 the Ambassador of India to Latvia, H.E. Ms. Namrata Satdeve Kumar paid an official visit to Daugavpils University to discuss future opportunities for cooperation in higher education, science, and research with the university’s management.

During the visit, H.E. Namrata Satdeve Kumar toured the laboratories of the Institute of Life Sciences and Technology at Daugavpils University, where she was introduced to the institute’s scientific laboratories, modern research facilities and ongoing projects. Representatives of Daugavpils University presented research in the fields of biotechnology, molecular biology, ecology, and environmental sciences. Special attention was given to the possibilities of developing international cooperation with Indian scientific and academic institutions, as well as student and researcher exchanges.

H.E. Namrata Satdeve Kumar expressed great interest in expanding cooperation between Daugavpils University and Indian higher education institutions, highlighting the potential of both countries’ academic institutions in carrying out joint projects. Attention was also drawn to the university’s existing partnerships with Indian universities. The Ambassador praised Daugavpils University’s scientific capacity and emphasized the potential for cooperation between India and Latvia in the fields of innovation and higher education.

The Ambassador also met with student Dhruv Satish Bagul from India, who graduated from Daugavpils University’s master’s programme this summer and is continuing his studies in the doctoral programme. The university’s rector and the Indian Ambassador confirmed their interest in continuing dialogue and building closer cooperation opportunities that will foster the exchange of knowledge, experience, and ideas between Latvia and India.

The visit was organised by the Latvian Textile Industry Association, and its chairman, Iļja Zlenko, was also present at Daugavpils University.
