Latvian language courses for adults Belonging in Latvia!

Daugavpils University is one of the largest implementers of educational projects in Eastern Latvia. The Faculty of Humanities at DU systematically implements projects that focus on organizing the Latvian language and Latvian state studies courses for representatives of minority groups and socially excluded or at-risk groups, raises awareness of integration issues, introduces the Latvia’s Cultural Canon, and promotes various forms of socio-cultural competence development.

This year, the DU Society Integration Foundation (SIF) State budget-funded program “Learning Latvian” (1st area of support: intensive Latvian language courses for residents of Latgale region (especially in Cibla, Zilupe, Ludza, Daugavpils, Dagda, Krāslava) and Riga region, as well as elsewhere in Latvia where necessary in the 2014/2015–2015/2016 academic year) has won the right to implement the project “Latvian language courses for adults Belonging in Latvia! (2014.LV/LV/1/2-17).

The project provides for 240 representatives of minority groups in the South Latgale region over a period of two years (2014–2015) attend free courses offered by DU to improve their state language skills for professional and job duties, as well as prepare for the state language proficiency test at the National Centre for Education. A similar project was implemented at the Faculty of Humanities of DU in 2012/2013.
