The Horizon Europe programme project Cultural Literacies’ Value in Europe aims to improve public awareness of the value of cultural education and promote social cohesion. To achieve this aim, various methods and approaches are used, including the Theory of Change framework and the method of Social Return on Investment analysis.

The project goal will be achieved in four steps: first, the map of formal and informal cultural education will be created; second, pilot projects to help identify and achieve specific results in cultural education will be implemented; thirdly, the assessment of significance of cultural education activities will be done by calculating their impact, which in turn will promote public awareness of where, when and how young people’s cultural literacy is developed and differentiated in different learning environments; fourthly, a set of innovative practices and materials will be developed to support cultural education teachers in promoting social justice and inclusion and improving the lives of young people through collaborative pedagogy. These stages form a chain of knowledge and practice that promotes the personal development of young people, their positive engagement and acceptance of “otherness.”

Cultural awareness in the project is not considered merely as a set of individual skills and competences, but rather as a phenomenon characterized by various social contexts. By assessing the impact of cultural education, the project will promote the exchange of ideas on the importance of cultural awareness among young people in today’s society.

The project is led by the University of Helsinki and involves 13 partners from eight European countries.

Project implementation period: 01/03/2024 – 28/02/2027
