On October 15, 2024, Daugavpils University hosted a significant cultural event – the official opening of three exhibitions prepared by the Embassies of Sweden, Denmark, and Finland within the framework of the “Nordic Days” programme. This initiative reflects the strong cooperation between the Nordic countries and the Latgale region, fostering international dialogue in education and culture.

The opening ceremony was attended by ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, the leadership of Daugavpils University, students, and academic staff. In his address, the Rector emphasized the importance of international cooperation and highlighted the Nordic countries’ contribution to the development of education and science.

The following exhibitions were presented at Daugavpils University:

  • “Finnish Jägers in Latvia” – a historical exhibition prepared by the National Archives of Latvia in collaboration with the Embassy of Finland, showcasing the activities of Finnish volunteers on Latvian territory during World War I.
  • “Our Arctic Future” – an exhibition by the Embassy of Denmark focusing on climate change and the sustainable development of the Arctic region.
  • “Research and Innovation” – an exhibition by the Embassy of Sweden highlighting the latest achievements in science and innovation.

These events are part of the broader “Nordic Days” programme held in Daugavpils, which also included ambassadorial meetings with representatives of the municipality, educational institutions, and cultural organizations.

Daugavpils University expresses its sincere gratitude to the Nordic embassies for their valuable contribution and looks forward to continued collaboration in the future, both in academic and cultural spheres.

On the very first day, the exhibitions attracted a large number of students and young visitors from local schools. The themes explored in the displays focus on science and innovation, climate change, and historical perspectives—offering both educational value and insight into key issues shaping our world today.
