On 15 June, 2025, Daugavpils University in collaboration with the NGO “HVARAN” implemented the fourth session of the case study Together We Rise as a part of the “Horizon Europe” programme project “The Cultural Literacies’ Value in Europe” (CLiViE). The project aims to support young people in exploring their sense of identity, fostering social coherence, and developing a stronger sense of belonging. It also encourages reflection on the multiple layers of identity and their implications for managing relationships with others.

The fourth session took place outdoors in the heart of the city centre and was designed to combine physical activity with personal development. Through a series of dynamic and cooperative games, participants were encouraged to work together, express their individuality, and demonstrate creativity in a supportive and inclusive environment. Following the interactive activities, the group was guided into a thematic discussion on urban infrastructure, inviting them to reflect critically on their city and its potential for transformation. This discussion led to a collaborative exercise in which the children took on the role of architects, designing their dream city. These imagined cities were brought to life through sketches that visually articulated the children’s aspirations, personal experiences, and emotional connection to the project. The activity highlighted each child’s capacity to be an active contributor to their living environment, reinforcing the idea that young people are not only future members of society, but also its co-creators and emerging policymakers. Through this creative and reflective process, the session deepened the participants’ understanding of the interconnections between identity, community, and the environment, while fostering a sense of empowerment and ownership over their shared future.

To evaluate the effectiveness of arts-based education and determine its relevance and economic benefits, the “Horizon Europe” programme project “The Cultural Literacies’ Value in Europe” envisages implementing four case studies. These will involve cooperation between researchers from Daugavpils University and both formal and informal education establishments, as well as consultations with the project’s official partners from European universities and cultural institutions. Cooperation with the cultural industries adds value to the project, while the involvement of children and youth in project activities will enhance their cultural literacy, foster personal development, encourage positive engagement, and promote tolerance, equality, and inclusion within the cultural space of Latvia and Europe.
