On April 16, 2025, the Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Latvia, Dr. György Urkuti (H.E. Mr. György Urkuti), visited Daugavpils University.
During the visit, the ambassador met with the university’s management – Acting Vice-Rector for Science and Vice-Rector for Studies, Inese Kokina. The meeting focused on discussing opportunities for cooperation between higher education institutions in Latvia and Hungary, with a particular emphasis on the importance of student and staff exchanges, as well as shared interests in the field of pedagogy.
The ambassador expressed the desire to foster closer cooperation between Daugavpils University and Hungarian higher education institutions by establishing international contacts and initiating joint academic projects. At the same time, he emphasized that both countries are united by similar values and a mutual desire to strengthen cooperation in education, research, and culture.
As part of the visit, the exhibition “UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Hungary” was opened, offering insight into Hungary’s rich cultural and historical heritage. The exhibition was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Hungary in Latvia.
Additionally, in the lecture “Latvian-Hungarian Relations” dedicated to Daugavpils University students, Dr. György Urkuti discussed the history of bilateral relations between Latvia and Hungary, current areas of cooperation, and significant challenges in the context of the European Union.
