On November 7–8, 2024, researchers Evita Badina and Žans Badins from the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at Daugavpils University participated in the 9th International Scientific Conference on Linguistic, Educational, and Intercultural Research – LEIC Research 2024. Hosted by Vilnius University and the Language Teachers Association of Lithuania, the event coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Institute of Foreign Languages, fostering an exchange of insights on contemporary linguistic, educational, and cultural topics.
Evita Badina and Žans Badins presented a report titled Cultural Control and Translation: The Soviet Influence on Anglophone Works in Latvia. Their analysis explored how Soviet translation policies mediated access to Anglophone literature in Latvia, focusing on the political oversight of literary selections. The researchers examined the strategies used to align foreign works with ideological aims.
