SCIENCE COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP AND SCIENCE FESTIVAL WAS ORGANIZED IN ŠIAULIAI UNIVERSITY

During 6-7 December science communication workshop and Science Festival was organized in Šiauliai University (SU), Lithuania within the project “BaltNord network for science communication”. All project partners took part in it: Daugavpils University (DU), Latvia, Science Centre AHHAA Foundation (AHHAA), Estonia, Šiauliai University (SU), Lithuania and University of Iceland (UI), Iceland as well as lecturers, researchers and students from Lithuania. The first day of the event was dedicated to project partner meeting and experience and best practice sharing in science communication sphere – project partners were telling about science communication development in their organizations and regions.
During the Science Festival the target audience – more than 117 students, teachers had a possibility to participate in different interactive scientific activities: AHHAA Science Centre performers surprised the visitors with an exhilarating science theatre show, demonstrating and explaining physical and chemical processes in a comprehensive way; University of Island prepared practical workshops in groups which gave participants the opportunity to try themselves out in making different interesting things, for example, model of wind generator and then check its speed with various airflows; Daugavpils University showed its beetles’ collection of Biosystematics department and also live insects (millipede, cockroaches) originated from South America and Madagascar.
During the second day of the event it was also possible to visit scientific workshops named “islands”: Health island, Robotics island, Survival island, Energy island, Vision island.
Both for the project partners and for the visitors the two day event was a good source of inspiration and new ideas which encourages working actively for the development of science communication events in our institutions, cities/towns and regions.
